A Specially Adapted Cord for Wild Boar Fences
The wild boar is a powerful, mobile animal capable of covering large distances in search of food.
Crops, meadows, seedlings, corn, orchards, vegetable gardens, lawns, and private lands can quickly suffer damage when a group of wild boars begins to regularly frequent a plot.
An electric fence then becomes a solution to create a deterrent boundary around the area to be protected.
However, to achieve an effective installation, the power of the energizer is not the only important factor.
The choice of the electrical conductor is just as important.
It must be:
visible to the animal, highly conductive, sufficiently robust, and capable of retaining its qualities along the entire length of the fence.
It is precisely for these reasons that we have selected the Gallagher Vidoflex 9 TurboLine blue for our anti-boar installations.
Individuals, Farmers, and Breeders: One Conductor for Many Installations
One of the great advantages of the blue Vidoflex 9 is its versatility.
It can be used to create an electric fence around:
- a garden;
- a vegetable garden;
- a lawn or private land;
- an orchard;
- a meadow or pasture;
- an agricultural plot;
- a field;
- market garden crops;
- cereal crops;
- seeding zones;
- or any other area regularly exposed to wild boar passage.
The difference will mainly be in the length of conductor needed, the number of lines installed, and the energizer chosen.
The same cord can thus equip a small protection for an individual as well as a much longer fence around a professional plot.
Why Use a Blue Cord Against Wild Boars?
The blue color is an essential characteristic of this conductor.
It is not simply an aesthetic choice.
The color perception of wild boars differs from that of humans. Blue offers a particularly interesting contrast to make the conductor more easily perceptible to the wildlife.
It is indeed for this reason that Gallagher offers this blue conductor for installations intended to deter wildlife.
This visibility is important in the functioning of an electric fence.
An anti-boar fence is not meant to be an unbreakable mechanical barrier. It must primarily create a boundary that the animal learns to identify and avoid.
When the blue lines are clearly visible and their contact is associated with the impulse of the electric fence, they constitute an easily identifiable visual and electric boundary.
This characteristic is beneficial for both small plots and large crops.
Why Choose a Braided Cord?
The Vidoflex 9 is not just a simple synthetic wire containing a few metal conductors.
It benefits from a braided construction.
This design provides better stability to the conductor and limits its elongation compared to some simply twisted wires.
This is a real advantage for fences that stretch several hundred meters.
When a conductor gradually elongates, the lines may loosen between the posts, requiring more tensioning.
A braided cord allows for a more stable and consistent installation over time.
This construction is thus beneficial for both a permanent fence around a property and a professional installation surrounding a meadow or crop.
Excellent Conductivity: Only 0.06 Ω/m
To understand the benefit of the Vidoflex 9, one must also look at what is inside the cord.
An energizer can be very powerful: if the conductor poorly transmits the electric impulse, part of this performance is lost before reaching the most distant areas of the fence.
The Vidoflex 9 has a very low electrical resistance:
0.06 Ω/m.
The lower the resistance expressed in ohms per meter, the more capable the conductor is of efficiently transmitting the electric impulse across the fence.
This feature becomes particularly important when working on large agricultural areas.The Vidoflex 9 notably includes:
3 tinned copper conductors of 0.25 mm, combined with stainless steel conductors.
The copper ensures excellent conductivity while the stainless steel conductors contribute to the robustness and reliability of the system.
This combination results in a cord that is both highly conductive and suitable for durable outdoor use.
A real advantage on long fences
Over a few dozen meters, the differences between two conductors can sometimes seem minimal.
They become much more significant when the fence surrounds a meadow, a field, or several hectares of crops.
Each meter of conductor has a certain electrical resistance. This resistance gradually accumulates with length.
This is why the low resistance of 0.06 Ω/m of the Vidoflex 9 is an important argument for professional installations and large perimeters.
It allows for better transportation of the available energy to the distant parts of the installation, provided, of course, that the entire fence is correctly constructed.
The quality of the grounding, the power of the energizer, the connections, and vegetation maintenance are also essential.
Tensile strength of 105 kg
A boar-proof fence is installed in an environment where the conductor may be subjected to numerous constraints:
wind, vegetation, branches, handling, assembly and disassembly, or accidental contact with animals.
The Vidoflex 9 has a tensile strength of 105 kg.
This robustness makes it a particularly interesting conductor for outdoor installations intended to remain in place for long periods.
It is appreciated both around a garden and on the edge of a crop or meadow.
A conductor designed for outdoor use
The cord is made from synthetic materials with UV protection.
This feature is important since the conductor can remain exposed daily to the sun and the elements.
Gallagher provides the Vidoflex 9 with a 5-year UV warranty.
This is a particularly interesting point for permanent or seasonal installations reused year after year.
400 m or 1000 m: two lengths to suit each installation
We offer the Gallagher Vidoflex 9 TurboLine blue in two spoolings to meet the needs of both individuals and professionals.
400-meter spool
The 400 m version is particularly suitable for gardens, vegetable patches, small orchards, private grounds, and moderately sized plots.
It can also be suitable for a localized professional installation or to complement an existing fence.
However, the number of conductor lines must be taken into account.
For example, a 100-meter perimeter fence equipped with three lines already requires about 300 meters of cord, excluding connections and installation margin.
1000-meter spool
The 1000 m version is particularly interesting for crops, fields, meadows, pastures, large orchards, and agricultural operations.
It allows for equipping much larger perimeters and avoids unnecessarily multiplying the connections between several small spools.
It is also interesting for professionals who regularly install game-proof fences.
A boar-proof fence must be thought of as a whole
Even the best conductor cannot compensate for a poorly sized installation.
To achieve an efficient boar-proof fence, several elements must work together:
a sufficiently powerful energizer, suitable for the length of the fence and the conditions of the terrain;
properly executed grounding, essential for the operation of the electric fence;
a high-quality conductor, like the Gallagher Vidoflex 9 TurboLine;
appropriate posts and insulators, properly maintaining the different lines;
and regular vegetation maintenance, to limit electrical losses caused by grass, branches, and plants touching the conductors.
The power required for a small garden and that required for a large agricultural operation will obviously not be the same. However, the Vidoflex 9 conductor can be used in both configurations.
Why we recommend the Vidoflex 9 TurboLine blue for wild boars
When selecting an anti-wild boar conductor, we do not limit ourselves to its diameter.
The Vidoflex 9 combines several particularly interesting features into a single product:
its blue color improves the visibility of the fence for wildlife;
its 3 mm diameter offers a well-identifiable line while remaining easy to handle;
its braided structure provides stability and resistance;
its very low resistance of 0.06 Ω/m ensures excellent impulse transmission;
its tinned copper and stainless steel conductors combine conductivity and reliability;
its tensile strength of 105 kg is suitable for the constraints of outdoor use;
and its UV protection allows it to be used sustainably outdoors.
This combination makes it an excellent choice for building an anti-wild boar electric fence, regardless of the nature of the area to be protected.

Terwagne's advice
For an anti-wild boar fence, do not only choose your energizer: also choose a conductor capable of efficiently carrying its energy.
This is particularly important on large plots.
With its electrical resistance of only 0.06 Ω/m, its braided design, mechanical resistance, and highly visible blue color for wildlife, the Gallagher Vidoflex 9 TurboLine 3 mm is our reference conductor for electric fences intended for protection against wild boars.
It particularly offers the advantage of being universal: the same cord can protect an individual's vegetable patch, several hectares of an agriculturist’s crops, or a meadow exposed to regular wild boar crossings.
You then just need to adapt the length of the fence, the number and height of the lines, the power of the energizer, and the grounding to the configuration of the terrain.
